In 2004, Bobby Hewitt, current team owner, established a program intended to support amateur riders in their quest to achieve their dream.  Names like Dean Wilson, Austin Stroupe, Ryan Villopoto, Malcolm Stewart, Kyle Cunningham, Tommy Hahn, Matt Lemoine and many more began with Bobby in the amateur ranks. Shortly after establishing the amateur program, Kawasaki was looking for a secondary professional team and the opportunity came up for Bobby to purchase the team (Motosport.com).

After a couple years with Kawasaki and sponsorship changes, the team becomes Rockstar Energy Suzuki and represents Suzuki as the Factory Lites Team.  When Roger Decoster left, so did the support.  From 2011 through the 2013 season, Bobby and his crew fought to produce the most competitive bikes on the field with or without the factory support. In doing so, the team was able to have a very successful few years with Lites riders Jason Anderson, Blake Wharton, Ryan Morais, Martin Davalos, Blake Baggett and most recently 450 rider Davi Millsaps.

  • In October of 2013, Rockstar Energy Racing (RER) made the official switch to KTM Motorsports to race aboard KTM motorcycles in both the AMA Supercross and Pro Motocross Championship Series. As a satellite team, RER will always be the little engine that could, but having the support of KTM is a huge advantage. We are delighted and grateful to race KTM motorcycles and eagerly excited for the opportunity to utilize KTM's new Factory Services program. Making the switch allows the team to have the platform it needs to deliver the results that the team, its riders and its sponsors are looking to achieve.

RER strives to continue to improve the overall race results and exposure gained in professional racing. The desire and willingness to do so, proves to be a testament to the value we provide to our sponsors and their products. To date, Rockstar Energy Racing is one of the most successful longest running privately funded racing programs and intends to be in the sport for a very long time.
